KidZone Splish-Splash
Starting Sunday
September 13th
Come and meet two new puppet friends, hear some Splish
Splash Bible stories, make some crafts, play some games and of course
have some fun! It's all
part of our new Splish Splash program. If you are going to Primary, come
and join the other children (up to and including Grade 6) as we discover what water wonders are waiting
for us.
Have you seen it?
Over the summer months much
time and effort were put in to completing the work in
the vestry. Words cannot express the appreciation for everyone who
helped out with painting and decorating. This was truly an act
of Christian service which will really enhance the space
used for our children's programs. Thanks to Stephanie Wambolt, Jenn
Cox, Greg Wolfe, Sam Wolfe, Heather Cox, Emma Otuki, Stephan Purdy, Stephen
Davidson and Robyn McIsaac who helped with painting the rooms and decor.
Thanks go to Jean Woodworth for painting the seascape mural and Ivan
MacPhee for building the lighthouse. Thanks to Walter Scott, Charlie Rand
and Ralph Miller for their handiwork. Thank you to all those who offered
encouragement of one sort or another. It was a huge project but one that
will appreciated for many years to come. If you haven't seen it........take a look!
Oasis Reflections
2009
My Oasis experience this year was,
again, exceptional - inspirational messages by Dr. Harry Gardner and
Dr. Peter Reid, worship services where young and old joined in
praise to our Saviour and Lord as the Spirit moved, great music,
Seminars on a large variety of topics for learning and
spiritual growth and, of course, the opportunity to meet with old and
new acquaintances. The highlight, however, was the challenging ministry
of Dr. Reggie McNeal, the keynote speaker, who emphasized that the Church
needs to get out of the building and look for ways to serve and connect to
the people around us who are in need, not just spiritually but physically.
Dr. McNeal emphasized that when we attend to their physical needs, the
care of the spiritual will follow through the work of the Holy Spirit.
The message that spoke most clearly to me was that, just as the
Holy Spirit lives within us as Christians and is among us as we
worship, the Holy Spirit is also "out there" working to
prepare people for our ministry to them. But we, the
Church, must go to the people just as the disciples did in the days of the
early Christian church. Dr. McNeal noted that in doing so we too may
have to leave our comfort zone, and he used the Apostle Peter's
ministry to the Gentile, Cornelius, as an example of this.
Miriam MacDonald
One exciting thing for me was the dynamic intensity of
Reggie, his sense of humour and delivery were phenomenal. His
challenge to be the people of God outside your safety zone made such good
sense. The excitement of being surprised by God at work is
challenging both individually and as a church. Both events in Manning Chapel
that I attended were for me opportunities to experience God's presence: The
Hymns of the Faith and the time of reflection on The Healing of Bartimaeous.
Joan Nickerson
It is difficult to choose just one thing about our wider
church family gathering to present. It is exciting to be at Acadia with
friends and acquaintances from all over Atlantic Canada, with opportunity to
meet new ones, build relationships, and sing praises to our Lord
together. It is one thing to be part of the Body in the local church, but
exciting to be part of the larger Convention Body in Atlantic Canada, across
the country, the continent, and celebrating 400 years in the world. It is
exciting to hear how Christianity is spreading in India, China, and other parts
of the world, knowing we are making a contribution. All the speakers this
year seemed to be especially good, with strong, clear messages. The
special music was also enjoyable and uplifting. The first evening, when
Executive Minister, Peter Reid, spoke on the need to change, that the world
Baptist tradition was built on change and we needed to rediscover our roots of
what it means to be Baptist, it struck a resonant chord with me that gave me
shivers. Over the last five to seven decades we have developed
debilitating “church traditions” which have entrenched ways of doing, or not
doing things which really are not consistent with our roots. There is
need to break our bondage and get back to the basics of who we are, and get on
with our mission of loving out neighbour and spreading the Gospel. A challenge that was given to enhance our
church/individual ministry. The guest
speaker, Reggie McNeal, challenged us to become a “blessing” people, doing our
part in our Lord’s plan to bring people to Him, seizing each opportunity to
reach out to those we meet, right where they are - out in the community. Thanks
for the opportunity to attend and represent our family at Bedford Baptist. David
Rice Smith
I always enjoy going to Oasis to connect with God's people
outside of our own church. It is wonderful to chat to others to hear what God
is doing in their lives. I know God was present at all times, but I
felt Him through the messages and the music. I thank God for the speaker Reggie
McNeill. His message was powerful. From
Reggie's message I feel we can all try to be a blessing to 3 different people
each week.
