Christmas Musical

Next Sunday, December 20th 10:55am the Church Choir will be presenting the musical “Mary, Did You Know?” (by David Guthrie & Bruce Greer). Come and enjoy the beautiful sounds of Christmas Music.

Sunday Prayer Link

In this period of Advent and Christmas services and programs, numerous individuals in our communities will hear the message of Christmas through word, song and drama. Please pray that hearts and lives will be touched and changed by the message of God’s transforming love which is found in and through Jesus Christ, whose birth we again celebrate.

Remember When…..

Five years ago this past week December 9th, the McGill family arrived in Halifax. The McGills lived in Monrovia, the capital of Liberia before being forced to flee their country's civil war. They lived in a refugee camp in western Ghana until they were sponsored by Bedford Baptist with help from other churches of the Baptist Association of Halifax.  Three of the McGill young people Abel, Patience and Guladia, have since graduated from high school and Abel and Patience have become Canadian citizens. Here is an excerpt from a note Samuel sent to the Davidsons.

As I always say, we do appreciate the effort of the Bedford Baptist Church and other churches that combined their efforts, money and time to sponsor us. Your resources were not a waste but a way of reaching out to people in need. This endeavour will never be forgotten as long we live. Even if we pass out, our children will always tell the story how we got over. We have made it a tradition each time of the year, on this day, to orally inform the kids the role the church and each   of you played as member of the refugee committee to get us over This story will live forever! We will make sure to pass it on from generation to generation i.e. even to our generation unborn.  Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year in advance to the pastors and the congregation!!!  God bless you!

Thank you

Dave & I would like to thank the people of Bedford Baptist for the many acts of kindness that have meant so much to us. Thanks for the visits, both at home & in hospital, countless prayers, cards, transportation & so much more.  To consolidate some statements from the oncologist, only HE knows for sure, my medical team believes the cancer is gone for good.  Your continued prayers are still welcome as it will be a long time before I am fully recovered! You are welcome to visit us but don’t come at the same time, we don’t have enough chairs. Blessings!  Dave & Ruth Chiasson

Blue Christmas Service

We will be having a Blue Christmas service this afternoon at 4:00pm.  This is a special service of quiet reflection and meditation for those who find Christmas difficult because of particular life stresses or losses. For those who wish to do so, there will be an opportunity to light a candle in memory of loved ones. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Is God Calling You To Serve?

The Nominating Committee is currently working on its’ report which will contain recommendations for Officers, Boards and Committees of Bedford Baptist Church for the year commencing at the Annual meeting in February 2010.  Articles V and VI of the current constitution lay out, in some detail, terms of service required for the officers, major boards and committees (i.e. Deacons, Christian Education, Finance, Trustees and Missions) Other committees may or may not list specific terms of service. This time each year, members of the Nominating Committee, contact those people listed in the previous years’ annual report in order to ascertain where vacancies will occur and then they are tasked with the responsibility of finding new volunteers for the positions. We would like to thank those who have responded to date and although we have made good progress thus far, there are still a number of vacancies to be filled. We would ask that you prayerfully consider the request when contacted by our committee. If there is a specific area you would like to serve please let your interests be known to the Nominating Committee. It takes many from our congregation to give of their time and talents in support of the Lords’ work here at Bedford Baptist. -  Lloyd Mitchell, Chair, Nominating Committee.
