June Calendar

The June calendar of events is available for pick up in the foyer.

Visitation Committee

Please note that the Visitation Committee meeting schedule for this Wednesday at 1:30pm has been rescheduled to Tuesday, June 16th at 1:30.

Thank You

Jean, Gary and Sean Myatt would like to thank the church family for the cards, words of encouragement and expressions of sympathy that were given with the passing away of Jean’s Mom in Winnipeg.  It is so encouraging to be supported in that way during that difficult time.

Thanks To You - Three boxes of Campbell Soup labels totalling 17,313 were recently delivered to Landmark East in Wolfville.  Campbell's Soups used to give 1 point for small labels, 2 points for medium labels, and 3 points for large labels. That has changed with one point given for each label regardless of size. The dollar value of the labels this year is approximately $150.00. Representatives from the Campbell Soup Company come to Landmark East School to count the labels and give credit for the points accumulated. These labels are then destroyed. The staff at the School use the points to order what items they can from the catalogue. For example a Digital Camera would cost about 35,000 points. Thank you to all who have contributed to this Barbershop Service project.

Upcoming RAPHA Conference:

Please identify people in your church who have an interest/heart/calling in eliminating the stigma of mental illness within the church.  We want to invite these persons to a life changing, informative, one-day conference being held on Saturday, October 17th, 2009 at Bedford Baptist Church.  More information to follow.

Graduation Service

The Graduation Service for those who have completed our Convention's Lay Pastor's Training Program will be held at Bedford Baptist Church on Saturday, June 13 at 2 p.m.  A reception will follow.   Lic. Kathy Cochrane is one of the graduating students.

Induction Service

Lic. Christopher Drew will be inducted as Associate Pastor at West End Baptist Church on Sunday, June 14 at 6:30 p.m.  Rev. Nelson Metcalfe will deliver the Induction sermon.

Birthday Celebrations

Belated birthday wishes are extended to Ida Johnston who celebrated her 93rd birthday on June 1st and to Otis Clayton who celebrated his 86th birthday on June 4th. Best wishes are also to Grace McLean who will be celebrating her 80th birthday on Wednesday, June 10th.

Welcome Summer Students

Please be in prayer for our summer students who will begin their summer ministry tomorrow. Summer ministry coordinators will be introduced next Sunday.

Maritime Grandmothers March for African Grandmothers

Saturday, June 13th, Maritime Grandmothers will hold a press conference and march for African Grandmothers. This event is held to share the importance of reform of Canada's Access to Medicines Regime (CAMR), presently discussed in the Senate. Reform of CAMR would allow easier licensing of the export of desperately needed, generic drugs to the most vulnerable people who live with HIV/AIDS in Sub-Saharan Africa, especially children. The African grandmothers are burying their children, raise the children and bury many of them as well.  CAMR without red tape would save the lives of millions. Please see poster on the bulletin board for additional information.

Prayer Link

Please pray for our churches’ effectiveness in reaching, welcoming and integrating young adults. Many of our churches have developed effective ministries to children and teens, but often lose those same people as they emerge into young adulthood. Pray also for these young adults as they transition from the home of their parents to careers as well as creating their own homes.

Grad Barbecue & Church Family Picnic

The Graduates’ Barbecue and the Church Family Picnic is next Sunday, June 14th following the morning service. Everyone Welcome!

Guest Speaker at our morning service will be Lic. Borden Scott.

Pie and Craft Auction

Join us for our Auction on June 13th at 7pm.  We are looking for donations of baked goods and craft items, and of course, many cheerful bidders!  Light refreshments will be served. This event will be hosted by the youth in support of the Stewardship Committee and their efforts to offset church heating costs.  Contact Jenn Cox for more information
