Welcome to our Guest Speaker

Today, we welcome Rev. Dr. Andrew MacRae to our pulpit. Dr MacRae came to Acadia Divinity College in 1980, when he established the first Chair in Evangelism and Mission in Canada. Following 12 years experience in pastoral ministry in Scotland, he served for 14 years as the General Secretary and Superintendent of the Baptist Union of Scotland. Additionally, he served extensively in Europe, including a period as President of the European Baptist Federation. From 1985 - 1998, he served as Principal (President) and Dean of Theology, ADC, during which years the Doctor of Ministry program was introduced, and affiliation to Acadia University was granted to two Nigerian Theological Colleges and one Graduate Seminary in Hong Kong. Since his "retirement" in 1998, he has continued, as Professor-Emeritus, to teach Evangelism and some courses in Preaching, and continues, since early 2000, to serve as Director of the expanding Doctor of Ministry program.

For the past four years of life in Bedford Baptist: my life has grown and has gone through many stages, which I never vision of becoming reality. Since my arrival in Canada, by the support of you people, I have triumphed by going back to school and completing my high school, becoming a Canadian citizen and going to college this fall. As well as currently living in my own apartment. I wouldn’t have done all of these accomplishments all by myself, without the blessing of the Almighty and by the kind generosity of you God-loving people. Today, I take this opportunity to express my thanks and appreciation to you all, for the care and support that I have received from you beautiful people over the past years. I would also like to reach out my words of special thanks to the Davidson family for the care, support and encouragement that they had given me while living under their umbrella. I cannot convey how much this family has taken me as their own! I have nothing to repay them for the kind role they have played within my life, but I pray that God pours down His blessing upon them. Finally, I also like to say thanks to all of the hard working Pastors and staff of the Bedford Baptist Church, Sis Rebecca Forbes and to all of the ladies that contributed toward my apartment. Shalom Abel Varney McGill

Senior’s Bus Trip

Prayer Link

Please pray for the four “Healthy Small Church” Seminars which will take place this week throughout Nova Scotia. These seminars, hosted by the Atlantic Baptist Mission Board of our Convention, will feature author, lay pastor, and area minister Dennis Bickers, and are intended for all interested individuals. Please pray that this will be a rich time of capturing God’s call for our churches to be vibrant, healthy and effective in extending the Gospel of His Kingdom into their communities and world.

Carter Family Urgent Prayer Request

This week’s news is a parent’s worst nightmare.  On Thursday May 7, Jeff and Deann Carter’s older son Zachary suffered a serious seizure and has been in hospital ever since.  Tests have ruled out epilepsy but have revealed the possibility of an infection in the brain.  Today (May 12) is the day when the specialist will gather his team together to focus on possible scenarios.  Please pray for a full recovery for Zachary, and pray also for Jeff and Deann, as the strain of having a child in hospital with no definite diagnosis is wearing them down – both physically and emotionally.   The Carters are our Partners in Mission in the Czech Republic.

Bereavement

As a caring community of faith and love we extend our sincere Christian sympathy to Marilyn and Bob Watson and family on the death of Marilyn’s mother, Althea Kaulback, Sunday, May 3, 2009.

As a caring community of faith and love we extend our sincere Christian sympathy to Reta & Bill Misener and family on the death of Reta’s sister, Pauline Fraser, Friday, May 8, 2009.
