CBM Prayer Line

Canada

As many of you may have already heard, the son of one of our staff members here at CBM succumbed to post-surgery complications and passed away on Wednesday June 30. Although only 19 years old, Denis Malcolm knew and loved his Heavenly Father and is now a resident of the city where pain and sorrow find no place. Sorrow is over for Denis, but for those he’s left behind, the grief will be lived out in sorrow in the weeks and months to come. Please pray for dad Brian, mom Lynda, and sisters Rachael and Gina, as well as the myriad of other relatives and friends whose lives were enriched and made brighter by Denis. We praise God that we do not grieve as those who have no hope - but nevertheless we grieve.

Bolivia

Please pray for the Guthrie family as they settle into their new environment. With full-time language learning behind them and work in community development ministry about to begin, life is very busy right now in La Paz. As they test out their Spanish and immerse themselves into their new surroundings, pray for God’s peace and guidance in this new chapter of their lives.

Sunday Prayer Link

Please pray for military chaplains Rev. Gordon Poley and Rev. Jim Russell who serve Christ and extend His love through their ministry with the Canadian Armed Forces. Please pray for God’s wisdom, protection and enabling as they minister the Good News of Jesus Christ with our military’s men and women who serve our country.

Our Prayer Initiative

We are invited to join together in prayer for one another. As we move through our fellowship alphabetically, look for your name to appear. If it doesn't, please let Peter know, for we wish to be in prayer for YOU. This week, please be in prayer for: Gordon & Sandra Irving, Jeff Irving, Stephen Johnson, Rebecca (Forbes), William & Alexander Johnson, and Dr. Grace Johnston.

Golf Anyone?

We are exploring the idea of an annual BBC golf event for fun, fellowship, and fund-raising for one of the church programs (i.e. the nursery, KidZone or financial support for teen camps) to happen later this fall or next summer. The idea is for this event to be open to persons of any age or playing ability. We will need players and maybe a few non-players who can do all sorts of other things to help. (Chester Baptist has been doing a one-day golf event for about 10 years, and for many years a group of 20 from First Baptist in Dartmouth has been golfing in PEI for 3 days.) If anyone is interested in this idea please call Al Dakin at 826-1666 or e-mail at atkinsondakin@ns.sympatico.ca, titling your message “BBC golf”. If there is enough interest we will set up an organizational meeting to decide if the idea is viable / when / where / format, etc.

Event For Couples In Their 20’s or 30’s

Couples in their 20’s or 30’s are invited to a barbecue after church TODAY. If you have children they’re invited as well. Meat for the barbecue will be provided. You can help by bringing dessert, fruit, or snacking vegetables.

Volunteers Needed

We are looking for more volunteers to help out with our Pre-School Program on Sunday mornings. Specifically we are looking for 2 volunteers to look after the first Sunday of the month, 1 volunteer to help out on the fourth Sunday of the month, and spares to fill in when necessary. If you are able to help out, please call Michelle Vekeman at 444-3755.

GALACTIC BLAST DAY CAMP BEGINS!

Tomorrow marks the beginning of this year’s exciting VBS program under the title of “Galactic Blast Day Camp.” Every day, from Monday to Friday, will begin with registration at 9:00am. Then, from 9:30 am – 12:00 noon, those attending (from age 4 to Grade 6) will blast off into some adventurous activities including games, story time, snack, crafts, and singing. We hope to see many of you there for an out of this world experience!

Galactic Blast Day Camp Needs

Our annual Vacation Bible School program (this year known as Galactic Blast Day Camp) is just a little more than a week away. At the present time we are still looking for a Games Coordinator for the entire week (or perhaps a few coordinators to share the duties during the week.). Even if you just want to help out with games, crafts, snacks, etc., we can certainly find a place for you to use your gifts, talents, and abilities in service to Christ throughout the week. If you are interested in filling the Games Coordinator position or helping out in any other capacity, please contact Heather Cox or Kayleigh Rand.

Beacon House

Next Sunday is Beacon House Sunday. The ten top items needed by Beacon House for the month of July are: baby food, juice, canned meat, soup, stew, pasta, pasta sauce, diapers, condiments (ketchup, mustard, relish), and canned vegetables.

The entire month of July, the Beacon House Retail Store is holding a Christmas in July Event. Come in and see our Boutique quality Christmas displays. Also Beacon House is in need of volunteers over the summer. If you have a few hours please give us a call at 864-3025 (food bank) or 864-0547(retail).

Room & Board Request

Room & Board is required in a Christian home for a young Dalhousie music student from New Brunswick. Preferably within walking distance of the university or near a bus line. From September through April. Contact Myrna Misener – Ph. # 435-2303 – by July 31st, 2010.

Worship Services At Ivany Place

Rev. Jim Anderson, chaplain at the newly opened Ivany Place, is seeking help with worship services at the home, which take place every Friday at 2 PM. This is a meaningful time for residents and friends so if you are able to help in any way, with music, readings, speaking, prayer, etc., please see Pastor Ida or call 835-5966.

Registration for Bayside Camp

The summer season started strong with tremendous stories of lives being changed during Junior High #1. Early in the week one counselor shared how she had a chance to chat with a camper about Jesus at Artapalozza. No one had ever told this camper about Jesus and she was so excited to learn how much he loves her. By the end of the week she committed her life to him! With 7 more weeks of summer ahead we can hardly wait to see God continue to work in the lives of campers!

Each day we continue to have more campers register and with space available in most camps there’s still time to be part of the adventure:

Junior High #2 – July 11-16  Waiting List

Juniors #2 – July 18-23  Space Available

Junior High #3 – July 25-30  Limited Space (Girls) / Waiting List (Boys)

Beginners – August 4-6  Space Available

Juniors #3 – August 8-13  Space Available

Junior High #4 – August 15-20  Waiting List (Girls) / Limited Space (Boys)

Senior High – August 22-27  Space Available

Registration is simple: online at www.baysidecamp.org or by calling Nancy at (902) 868-1237.

Rides To Bayside

Transportation will be needed for 2 campers who are attending Senior High Camp at Bayside from August 22nd – 27th. (Their parents do not own a vehicle.) If you are able to help out, either driving the youth to camp that Sunday or picking them up that Friday, please contact the church office.

Providing transportation to Bayside Camp is an issue this church has to deal with from time to time. If you believe you can offer any assistance in this area, please contact the church office so that we can have a list available of potential drivers.
