Thank You Day Camp Volunteers

A big huge gigantic thank you to everyone who volunteered their time, energy, and enthusiasm to make this year’s Galactic Blast Day Camp such a rousing success. Because of your efforts with singing, games, crafts, snacks, storytelling, etc., over 60 children had an opportunity to learn of God’s great love for each and every one of them!

Sunday Prayer Link

Numerous churches in our Convention are making use of ‘Natural Church Development’, a tool meant to assist congregations in assessing their current congregational health and effectiveness for the Kingdom, and identifying strategic future directions. Please pray for these churches, and their Regional Ministers who often serve in a consultant role in the process, that they will discern God’s ongoing leading for them.

Our Prayer Initiative

We are invited to join together in prayer for one another. As we move through our fellowship alphabetically, look for your name to appear. If it doesn't, please let Peter know, for we wish to be in prayer for YOU. This week, please be in prayer for: Viola Kaiser, Philip, Faith, Sarah & Laura Keating, Ted & Janet Keddy, and Beth Kennedy.

Anniversary Congratulations

Belated congratulations to Barry and Edith Thompson who celebrated 67 years of marriage on July 14th.

Birthday Greetings

Best wishes are extended to Evelyn Ross who is celebrating her 85th birthday today.

Bereavement

As a caring community of faith and love we extend our sincere Christian sympathy to Edith and Barry Thompson on the death of Edith’s sister, Harriet Talbot, who died on July 3rd, 2010.

Pre-School Volunteers Needed

We are grateful that we have 3 people that are willing to be substitutes for this program (Jane Thibault, Laura MacCallum, and Wanda Tingley). We are also grateful for the people that are willing to take a regular turn in the schedule but there are still some holes that you can help to fill. If you are able to take on one of the following spots, please call Michelle Vekeman at 444-3755.

1st Week of the Month:  2 teachers needed

2nd Week of the Month: Bernie Levy and Michael McCurdy

3rd Week of the Month: Donna Peverill and Jason McCurdy

4th Week of the Month: Michelle Vekeman and 1 teacher needed

5th Week of the month (if we have one): Lloyd and Lynda Mitchell

Thank You

The CE Committee would like to give a BIG thank you to Faye Miller for the great clean up of the yard sale material and to Ralph Miller and Maurice Witherall for taking the remaining items to Value Village. We are thankful to all those named and unnamed individuals who minister behind the scenes.

Summer Reading Program

Don’t forget about our exciting reading program that will continue all summer long. Make plans to drop into our library and discover worlds of fantasy, adventure, humour, wisdom, and insight. And don’t forget that beyond the normal learning rewards of reading books, there are also prizes available to be won for every 3 books that you read!

Church Family Retreat

An exciting weekend awaits you and your family as the time for our annual Church Fall Retreat fast approaches (September 10th-12th). This year we’re taking advantage of the great facilities at our very own Bayside Camp for what will undoubtedly be a memorable weekend for all those choosing to attend. Look for registrations forms to be available next Sunday.

Edu-Kid

We are beginning our annual Edu-Kid campaign to provide school supplies to those in need. We are looking for looseleaf, pencils, crayons, markers, coloured pencils, scissors, glue, duotangs, scribblers, binders, etc.

There will be a box in the foyer next Sunday where you can drop off donated supplies or you can make a donation (mark as “school supplies”) and supplies will be purchased on your behalf. Thank you for your support!

Beacon House

Today is Beacon House Sunday. The ten top items needed by Beacon House for the month of July are: baby food, juice, canned meat, soup, stew, pasta, pasta sauce, diapers, condiments (ketchup, mustard, relish), and canned vegetables.

The entire month of July, the Beacon House Retail Store is holding a Christmas in July Event. Come in and see our Boutique quality Christmas displays. Also Beacon House is in need of volunteers over the summer. If you have a few hours please give us a call at 864-3025 (food bank) or 864-0547(retail).

 Update from Bayside Camp

Last week as we hosted Juniors #1 the campers learned that the Bible is all about Jesus. Each day during Worship at the Cove the Camp Speaker encouraged us to spend time reading our Bibles to get to know Jesus better. One camper shared at Fireside on Thursday night how she was so excited about everything she had read in her Bible during camp that she was going home planning to read it from cover to cover this year! Imagine the impact one week of camp can have on the life of a child.

God is certainly at work this summer at Bayside Camp and with space available in most camps there’s still time to be part of the adventure:

Juniors #2 – July 18-23  Space Available

Junior High #3 – July 25-30  Waiting List

Beginners – August 4-6  Space Available

Juniors #3 – August 8-13  Space Available

Junior High #4 – August 15-20  Waiting List (Girls) / Limited Space (Boys)

Senior High – August 22-27  Space Available

Registration is simple online at www.baysidecamp.org or by calling Nancy at (902) 868-1237.

Rides To Bayside

Transportation will be needed for 2 campers who are attending Senior High Camp at Bayside from August 22nd – 27th. (Their parents do not own a vehicle.) If you are able to help out, either driving the youth to camp that Sunday or picking them up that Friday, please contact the church office.

Providing transportation to Bayside Camp is an issue this church has to deal with from time to time. If you believe you can offer any assistance in this area, please contact the church office (835-5966) so that we can have a list available of potential drivers.

Volunteers Needed For Worship Services At Ivany Place

Rev. Jim Anderson, chaplain at the newly opened Ivany Place, is seeking help with worship services at the home, which take place every Friday at 2 PM. This is a meaningful time for residents and friends so if you are able to help in any way, with music, readings, speaking, prayer, etc., please see Pastor Ida or call 835-5966.
