Food For Thought

Here, then, is the real problem of our negligence. We fail in our duty to study God's Word not so much because it is difficult to understand, not so much because it is dull and boring, but because it is work. Our problem is not a lack of intelligence or a lack of passion. Our problem is that we are lazy.

Sunday Prayer Link

The months of July and August are a time when many pastors and lay leaders within our churches take summer vacations. Please pray for those who travel, and that these vacations may be wonderful times for rest, renewal and spiritual replenishment.

Our Prayer Initiative

We are invited to join together in prayer for one another. As we move through our fellowship alphabetically, look for your name to appear. If it doesn't, please let Peter know, for we wish to be in prayer for YOU. This week, please be in prayer for: David, Anita, Elizabeth, & Samantha Hovey, Willard & Shirley Hubley, Ed & Dorothy Hughes, and Alastair & Ann Ingram.

Golf Anyone?

We are exploring the idea of an annual BBC golf event for fun, fellowship, and fund-raising for one of the church programs (i.e. the nursery, KidZone or financial support for teen camps) to happen later this fall or next summer. The idea is for this event to be open to persons of any age or playing ability. We will need players and maybe a few non-players who can do all sorts of other things to help. (Chester Baptist has been doing a one-day golf event for about 10 years, and for many years a group of 20 from First Baptist in Dartmouth has been golfing in PEI for 3 days.) If anyone is interested in this idea please call Al Dakin at 826-1666 or e-mail at atkinsondakin@ns.sympatico.ca, titling your message “BBC golf”. If there is enough interest we will set up an organizational meeting to decide if the idea is viable / when / where / format, etc.

Upcoming Event For Couples In Their 20’s or 30’s

Couples in their 20’s or 30’s are invited to a barbecue after church on Sunday July 11th. If you have children they’re invited as well. Meat for the barbecue will be provided. You can help by bringing dessert, fruit, or snacking vegetables.

Volunteers Needed

We are looking for more volunteers to help out with our Pre-School Program on Sunday mornings. Specifically we are looking for 2 volunteers to look after the first Sunday of the month, 1 volunteer to help out on the fourth Sunday of the month, and spares to fill in when necessary. If you are able to help out, please call Michelle Vekeman at 444-3755.

PEI Youth Mission Trip

Please be in prayer for 8 of our young people as they head off to PEI this week for a Missions Trip helping out Murray Harbour Baptist Church with their VBS program. In addition, they will also be visiting a Seniors Home and spending some time with the youth in the community before heading back on Friday. Please pray for travelling mercies and that God will use these volunteers in a mighty and powerful way.

Galactic Blast Day Camp Needs

Our annual Vacation Bible School program (this year known as Galactic Blast Day Camp) is just a little more than a week away. At the present time we are still looking for Storytellers for Tuesday and Thursday. There is also a need for a Games Coordinator for the entire week. If you are interested in filling these positions or know of someone who would, please contact Heather Cox or Kayleigh Rand.

Celebration Of Faith Outdoor Service

On Sunday, July 11, the Dartmouth Area Baptist Churches will be hosting a Celebration Of Faith Outdoor Service at Sullivan’s Pond. This Event will commence at 6:00 p.m. with the sale of hotdogs, sausages and pop. Funds raised will be given to the Bayside Baptist Youth Camp. There will be lots of singing of favourite hymns.

Rev. Edwin Allen, Senior Pastor of South End Baptist, will bring a brief message and there will be special music from the City of Lakes Barbershop Chorus, First Baptist Dartmouth and Shannon Walsh, a Recording Artist living in Dartmouth. The Hymn Sing will be led by Russell Sketchley and a Combined Choir.

Everyone is welcome!!! Please bring your own seating.

CBM Prayer Line

Canada

As we look forward to October and the arrival of Rev. Sam Chaise as our new General Secretary, we ask you to pray for Sam and his wife Cindie as they start the wheels in motion to negotiate all the necessary details and rearrangements that are necessary when changing jobs and moving halfway across this vast country of ours. Pray that the Lord will continue to lead them in this new adventure for His Kingdom, and at the same time, please pray for Malcolm Card as he holds the mantle of General Secretary in the interim.

Haiti

Please be in prayer for Michael Roop. From June 22 – July 6 Michael is visiting Haiti, contacting various potential partners and determining the best fit for CBM in regard to programming towards a brighter and safer future for the country. Travelling with him are Fritz Obas of the French Baptist Union and John Anderson, a long time worker in Haiti. Pray for safe travel, and pray too that the group and those with whom they meet will find their meetings both constructive and forward-looking to enable CBM to assist Haiti as she returns from the pain and devastation of the January 12th earthquake.

Bolivia

Rebecca Alward asks us to remember her in prayer as she leads the National Teen Camp in Sucre from July 1 – 4. She will be teaching a 90 minute workshop in Spanish each day - an overwhelming task at the best of times, but additionally intimidating when her audience is likely to be about 150 youth! Pray that she will be able to keep their attention, as 90 minutes is a long time for teenagers to stay focused.
